The one thing I love ALMOST as much as I love ranching? Fashion. Crazy, right? Ninety percent of the time I’m so covered in dirt that strangers don’t realize I’m a Jessie (the common female spelling), rather than a Jesse (the common male spelling). It’s true… working with cows, I don’t get much of a chance to dress up; but I love getting the chance to put an outfit together, whether it’s for a barbecue, rodeo, concert, or dinner date.
My own personal style really started to blossom after college. I hated looking like every other woman in a black pantsuit, so I would incorporate a little something western into each day’s outfit. Somedays it was a pair of snip toe boots, other days it was a chunky turquoise necklace. Over the years my style has definitely evolved, but I still consistently find myself wanting to appropriately stand out from the pack. I like to call it “practical, with a western-chic flair.”
Two up-and-coming local events, where dressing up is always fun, are the Snake River Stampede (SRS, July 19-23) and the Mountain Home Country Music Festival (MHCMF, July 29-31). With the help of Catherine (D&B’s Clothing Buyer) and Jen (D&B’s Internet Content Specialist), we put together a few outfits that you can rock at almost any event this summer, and definitely at SRS or MHCMF.
This white romper from Wrangler was undeniably my favorite outfit of the day. I’m usually not a romper fan but this one might have turned my mindset around. For me, the key was that the shorts had a semi-modest inseam and the waist cinched at a flattering place. Paired with a belt and a beautiful pair of Corral Vintage boots, this outfit will be perfect for an evening rodeo performance.
My other favorite, a definite MHCMF outfit, was this black top/shorts combination. This long, black tank has modest slits down each side and fringe, fringe, fringe! I tied the slits on my right side into a knot, which changed the length making my shorts a bit more visible. Speaking of shorts… these Miss Me Cloud Dye Denim shorts are so awesome. They are a great blend of denim, and a comfortable inseam. And did I mention they’re on clearance?!
If you’re somebody who feels more comfortable in pants, I would highly suggest this Wrangler Cold-Shoulder Top and Wrangler Aura Jeans. This cold-shoulder top helps to show off a little skin, in a classy way. As for shoes, you have plenty of options! Wedges, boots, mule, etc. anything would fit this little ensemble!
