The Quarter horse was given its name because they are the horses used in short distance races, more common than not a quarter mile. The quarter horse runs very intense races as long as they are less than 440 yards.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A QUARTER HORSE AND A THOROUGHBRED?
The main difference between the two horses is how they are built. Quarter horses, due to the way they are built, are given an advantage in short and fast running events. Thoroughbreds are built differently which gives them an advantage for better stamina and running longer distances.
DO TRAINERS TEND TO TRAIN QUARTER HORSES EXCLUSIVELY?
Being that quarter horses and thoroughbreds require being trained differently it is very common for trainers to train only quarter horses.
HOW DOES THE NATURE OF THE QUARTER HORSES DIFFER FROM OTHERS?
Quarter horses are known to be very competitive horses, trainers have said these horses have a desire to win. This competitive mentality helps them run at such an intense pace during the race.
