One of the more popular questions that came from our first Chicken Chat held on Facebook with the support of chicken experts from Nutrena and D&B Supply, was that of size and space. Here are some of the actual conversations from the event that we hope will help you answer your chicken questions.
Q: How many nesting boxes for ten hens? We heard a couple hens for one box. Is that true?
A: Four square fee of space per hen. Nutrena has a great article on caring for healthy hens that includes this and other important information. Click here for the article.
Additional feedback from customers:
I have 20 hens and they seem to only use three, sometimes four nesting boxes. Eight are available to them.
Q: What is the biggest breed of laying hens?
A: Jersey Giant is one of the biggest. Orpington is large as well.
