EarthquakeMap Your Neighborhood is a new program that the Nampa Salvation Army is helping coordinate, which will help pull your neighbors together when there is a local disaster. With the recent, out of the ordinary east coast earthquake, followed by Hurricane Irene, being prepared for such an event should be at the top of everyone’s mind. According to Sherill Stevens, Family Services and Development for the Salvation Army, Idaho has a higher probability than the east coast of a natural disaster, like an earthquake (Idaho is fifth on FEMA’s earthquake watch list).

What are you doing to be prepared? If you would like to be a leader in your community, or are already a community leader, and would like more information on Map Your Neighborhood there are several things you can do.

As someone who is familiar with the Map Your Neighborhood program, I applaud D&B Supply for its support of the MYN Project through the Salvation Army. I encourage everyone to NOT wait for someone else to do this in your neighborhood, but take the initiative and host a MYN get together in your home BEFORE a disaster happens. The meetings are fun and easy – like buying insurance. You hope you and your neighbors never need to actually use the plan you put together, but you feel safer knowing that you do, indeed, have a valid plan of action should the need arise. Personally, I think D&B’s customers are exactly the sort who are most likely to take the needed initiative!
