The FFA Foundation is raffling off a fully restored John Deere tractor beginning this week at the Canyon County Fair to help with the FFA Foundation scholarship fund and events. With almost eighty FFA chapters in the state of Idaho, a fundraising goal of $52,000 is attainable by each chapter selling sixty, $10 tickets. The tickets will go on sale this week at the Canyon County Fair where the restored tractor will be on display as well as being sold throughout the year from your local FFA chapter member.
The future of FFA, which in essence is the practical application of theory, relies on these young men and women to continue the traditions, be innovative and lead others in this deep rooted industry. FFA doesn’t just prep these high school kids for the farming and agricultural world, but for their impact, knowledge and leadership skills in many other industries as well.
This is the second year of the fundraiser which started out with FFA advocate, Sid Freeman’s wife telling him to either get rid or sell an old 1940’s farm tractor sitting on their property, which he intended to restore and display all on his own. After gaining support through conversations with local businesses and speaking with the FFA Foundation, he decided to donate it, restore it & raffle it off to raise money for a group that is near and dear to his heart, the FFA. With a full year to sell tickets (they only had seven months last year) their goal of $52,000 will also benefit the an Idaho FFA chapter by receiving five percent of the fundraising pot that is designated on the winning ticket.
Sid hopes to have the tractor be on a traveling circuit after the fair to show off the craftsmanship and beauty that has been brought back to life in this John Deere. Keep your eyes out for this piece of history and help support the FFA by purchasing a $10 ticket from your local FFA chapter.
